Why Life

Is your beauty a disguise?

why life
do you have to be so cruel
sometimes it seems
that you hide behind a disguise
of sunsets
that take our breath away
or the contrast of a palm tree
swaying over the shoreline
why life
can you appear to be so beautiful
and then in a split second
those sunsets and those palm trees
are tainted red
from our hearts that you rip out
and squeeze dry
